Okay, here’s my podcast interview with Janice Lieberman, author of How to Shop for a Husband. (Click here if you’d like to read my review.)
Janice offers great tips for finding and making a life with a man who’ll “withstand the test of time.” Usually known for her reports as Consumer Correspondent for Today, Janice says that “the laws of consumer behavior and protection play out beautifully on the dating scene.”
Which sounds decidedly unsexy, doesn’t it?
Except it’s not. Janice acknowledges that attraction is vital to a relationship. (Nobody’s looking for a buddy here.) But woman cannot live on sizzle alone; a good husband has to offer steak. And how many of us have fallen for the guy with sizzle but no steak? (Raising hand here!)
The podcast runs less than 15 minutes. First one to comment on what she heard gets a free copy of Janice’s book, How to Shop for a Husband.

Yesterday, I interviewed Janice Lieberman, Today ’s consumer correspondent and author of the newly released How to Shop for a Husband, for a podcast which will run here next week (I’m thinking Monday).
Unlike some of the depressing dating books I’ve read lately, the uplifting and practical How to Shop for a Husband truly shows the reader how to find the right man and guides her toward making a happy, lasting marriage (as opposed to something that lasts until the sex gets boring or the money runs out).
Lieberman, who says she was single for “a long time,” decided to apply her skills for for getting a good deal on merchandise to finding the right man to marry (on Today, she’s shown viewers how to avoid being ripped off on everything from appliances to cosmetic procedures). This is not as silly or as tedious as it sounds. And she definitely isn’t asking anyone to sacrifice attraction or romance in the process.
In addition to drawing on her own experience, Lieberman did good bit of research to back up the advice she offers in the book.
Let’s face it. Wedlock is not for everyone, but if you’re going to do it, do it right. And, in my estimation, Janice has some excellent tips for getting it right. I’m tempted to give away some of things we talked about here, but I’d rather you hear what she had to say for yourself. (And please forgive me for being somewhat inarticulate during the conversation; I still hadn’t recovered from doing something that really scared me the day before. I appreciate Janice for being patient with me.)
The first soul to comment on the podcast will receive a free copy of How to Shop for a Husband. As for the copy I read and marked up to prepare for the interview, I have a good friend who will definitely use it.

The ubiquitous sleeveless dress.
I don’t get it.
It’s 25 degrees Fahrenheit in the Northeastern United States, and it’s only going to get colder. Yet I’m finding it impossible to find a dressy dress with a long sleeve to see me through the holidays.
I already have a closet full of sleeveless and short-sleeved dresses. I don’t need any more of them. I don’t want any more of them. I refuse to buy any more of them.
I’m done with my teeth chattering on wine glasses at Christmas parties. Read more »
