A savvy (and kind) style guide

I’ll just come out with it: I love Tim Gunn.

When it comes to style, nobody tells you how to “make it work” more simply and kindly than Gunn, who became a household name on Bravo’s Fashion Runway.

Tim’s popularity led him to host his own show, Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, which is a serious favorite of mine. Every week, Tim and his co-host, Gretta Monahan, take some poor lost soul by the hand and show her how to make the most of her own unique beauty.  What I especially love about Tim is his kindness. He seems to genuinely like his subjects. He rejoices in their success.

And that’s the point of fashion, isn’t it? It’s not about buying up racks of stuff that Vogue Editrix Anna Wintour determines to be de rigeur this season. It’s not about what looks good on Sarah Jessica Parker. It’s about what works on you.

I never snap off Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style without taking away a tip I can use in my own life. Check out the show’s website for some you can use in yours.

What a pity that women lack so much confidence & vision that they need some one to tell them what to wear to look their best.

I for myself love the color orange & coddle myself in it – my underwear, my clothes, my bedding, my lipstick, my nail polish all in varying patterns & shades of orange.

Every one tells me I look like I’m glowing – it’s only cause I allow myself to be me.And then lets not forget the wonderful tip that Katherine Hepburn gave all those years ago about beauty:

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness…

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure , share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair , let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone…

Tim Gunn is like Ms. Jenkins (from In Living Color) — can’t nobody talk about him w/o a fight from the likes of me. ;)
